Exalted Magistrate!

In response to the request of Joseph Helbert, who requested in the lawsuit against me that it be interpreted in the spirit of paternal laws and the highest royal decrees, hoping that it would have a better chance against me, I beg that our case be treated within the regular court procedure. With due respect and service, in Sombor on April 1, 1815.

Humble servant
Of the Exalted Magistrate
Lazar Stein, a Jew and a city salesman

To the Exalted Magistrate of the free royal city of Sombor, esteemed gentleman
Lazar Stein, a Jew and city salesman, responds to Joseph Helbert's request

Graz, Joseph Halbart and son

Sombor, February 24, 1814.

According to your letter of December 20, what I owe to gentlemen Joseph and Ignatius Mayer is 137 f. which were deposited with Mr. Johann Sebastian in Pest, and for the remaining 336 f. 54 kr. you must report to Mr. Mayer, for I now have an order from Mr. Mayer regarding the deposited 137 f. And if Mr. Mayer does not want to pay, contact Mr. Franz Hartmann from Osijek, who kept this money, and who has already asked to pay it.

I salute you
Lazar Stein m.p.

Praiseworthy Magistrate!

Local merchant Lazar Stein still owes me a sum of 336 f 54 kr. in the same closed business. I have often approached this or that friend of the gentleman in question for the payment of this amount; but I didn't get the money anywhere, and no one wanted to pay for him.

Now I was tired of waiting and giving instructions; I also want to do the opposite of the gentleman, I do not accept any more instructions, but I ask him to pay the above amount at a price of 336 f. 54 kr.

But since the gentleman does not want to listen to the voice of kindness, I want to intervene in court to get the payment of my claim.

So the praiseworthy Magistrate can see that I have not at present stated anything untrue, and that my annulled claim for 336 f. 54 kr. is correct, therefore I enclose a copy of the letters written by the hand of the person concerned, from which it may be ascertained whether or not the gentleman acknowledges the correctness of my request for 336 f. 54 kr., as well as having given various useless instructions for payment.

Therefore I beg:

That the esteemed Magistrate order the gentleman in question to make payment within 14 days according to my above request for 336 f. 54 kr. I would have to be informed of that in duplicate.

Graz, 24. ... 1815.
Joseph Halbert

Magistrate of the Royal City of Sombor

Joseph Halbert, a homeowner from Graz, is asking Mr. Lazar Stein, a merchant from Sombor, to pay a claim of 336 f. and 54 kr.
